Overview

The ‘Data Contract’ as we call it, is the agreement that binds the producers who provide the source data to the consumers adhering to the data standards of the bank. This portal was designed to seamlessly navigate through the compliances and approvals to get the required data to the requestor

The portal has four primary users – Data Requestor, Data Engineer, Domain Owner, Data CoE. We have designed the entire portal from scratch to deliver an enhanced user experience for all the four primary users and strengthen data requisition and approval workflow for the end user.

Problem Statement

Problem Statement

Being a global entity with so many employees across time zones and data centers scattered around the world, data transfer to the right people with approvals becomes a pain-point.

The current process of gathering several levels of approvals through emails takes a huge amount of time often months. Another issue is the issue of accountability of data.

As a part of the this project, implementing an automated cloud - based solution for a data governance self-service portal that gives power to the business and provides the required agility is the project requirement.

System Map

A system map visually shows the different actors and artefacts for a given product or service, along with the relationships between them.

System maps are great for capturing the different elements that are involved for a product or service (either existing or future) and for taking a more holistic view of the UX design.

Virtual Workshop

Virtual Workshop

A 1-month virtual workshop was conducted with the stakeholders from different BUs from the clients end along with functional and design team members from Deloitte end. The outcome of the workshop was:

  • Define personas based on their roles and responsibilities

  • Chalk out the before and after user journeys of each persona

  • Primary tasks that need to be accomplished with the help of the portals that will be designed

  • How is the success of the tasks are measured

Conceptualization

Conceptualization

I started creating the information architecture and low-fi concepts for primary use cases. After having a go-ahead from the Product Manager, developers, and Stakeholders on the mockups, we began to conduct usability tests with the low-fidelity mockups. Once we had confidence in the design, we began digitalizing designs.

The most valuable and important set of information with the required level of detail was designed and developed which will help the users to get their job done and meet their goals

Portal was designed to make the request-approval workflow easier by simply filling out a form and getting multiple levels of approvals with single click

The design of the portal thereby allowed for an easy and smooth navigation throughout the information presented to the user

Enabled the users to make their business more efficient and quicker to respond to opportunities

Usability Testing

Usability Testing

We conducted informal and formal cognitive walkthroughs in controlled environment. Informal testing was conducted using paper prototypes and formal testing was conducted using InVision Prototype.

We conducted an informal testing twice during the course of the project. Both the rounds provided us with some valuable feedbacks for further exploration and design

Formal Testing

We provided 3 tasks that utilises the primary features of the portal to each participant to test out the high fidelity prototype. The participants were asked to think aloud while carrying out the tasks which provided us many insights on the logical flow of the design

After the usability testing was concluded, we obtained valuable feedback from the participants and implemented the observations into the design. The portal was then developed and now being successfully used by the bank employees to obtain sensitive data.

Project Learnings

Project Learnings

As designers, we tend to focus a lot on creating pixel perfect designs and often end up missing the big picture. This project helped me to understand the importance of considering business perspective in general and helping me get closer to both client and the final user of the product. Any new project should be focused on solving the problem faced by the users and not stress too much on adding jazzy features that is of no use. It is essential for designers to learn how to pitch ideas and justify design decisions from a stand point of how it is going to increase the revenue, engage the audience and have a better experience.
